Philadelphia, PA – June 27, 2006 – Hx Technologies, Inc. (HxTI), a leading provider of health information exchanges, today announced the completion of its upgrade to the technology backbone of the Philadelphia Health Information Exchange, the nation’s first network for electronically exchanging diagnostic imaging results across disparate medical facilities.

The upgrade to iHistory® version 3.0 brings significant benefits to both users of the Philadelphia network and the larger regional healthcare community. For example, iHistory now features intelligent search functionality that provides users with a streamlined means of finding their patients’ records across multiple facilities with retrieval speeds 10 times faster than the previous version of iHistory even as use of the network grows significantly. The Philadelphia Health Information Exchange currently tracks the imaging results of over 300,000 unique patients across the greater Philadelphia region, enabling on-demand, secure digital access by their authorized physicians as the patient moves between different healthcare settings.

The third generation of iHistory represents a complete rebuild of the platform based on Java® technology which was chosen to maximize reliability, availability, scalability and extensibility. Utilizing a services-oriented architecture (SOA), iHistory version 3.0 represents a new standard for regional and national interoperability based on an open web services framework. This framework permits a third party to tap directly into iHistory’s regional health information exchange infrastructure to integrate with existing clinical, research, and public health workflows.

"We’re delighted to introduce the most advanced, open, and extensible technology platform for health information exchange and interoperability to the Philadelphia market,” said Dr. Elliot Menschik, chief executive of HxTI. “With this upgrade, the Philadelphia Health Information Exchange continues to serve as a model for emerging exchanges and RHIOs around the nation. Harnessing search and web services technologies, this release of iHistory enables our customers to rapidly deploy and manage regional networks that maximize usability, performance, and openness yet streamline the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective care.”

With the upgrade in place for the Philadelphia exchange, the network is now open for other healthcare facilities and healthcare IT vendors to embed the exchange’s privacy, security, identity, search and retrieval functions directly into the complete spectrum of e-health tools including picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), radiology information systems (RIS), electronic medical records (EMRs), personal health records (PHRs), payer-based health records (PBHRs), computer-based physician order entry (CPOE), and biosurveillance applications.

iHistory version 3 is commercially available to HIE and RHIO efforts around the country, including the envisioned national health information network (NHIN) currently being explored by the Department of Health and Human Services.
